Here are the steps for creating these delicious sweet potato dog chews!

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. While it's heating up, wash and dry your sweet potatoes. Cut them into thin slices - about 1/4 inch thick. If you have a mandoline slicer, this step will be a breeze!
  2. Spread the sweet potato slices out on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Make sure they're not touching each other so they can get nice and crispy in the oven.
  3. Bake for 20 minutes, flipping once halfway through. You'll know they're done when they're golden brown and slightly firm to the touch. Allow them to cool completely before moving on to the next step.
  4. Once cooled, cut each slice into strips - about 1/2 inch wide. Again, a mandoline slicer will make quick work of this step! If you don't have one, no worries - just use a sharp knife and cut as evenly as possible.
  5. Now it's time to roll! Take each strip and roll it into a tight coil. Set aside on a plate or baking sheet until all strips have been rolled.
  6. Ready for the oven again? This time, set the temperature to 200 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for 1 hour or until completely dried out and hard to the touch. Allow to cool completely before serving to your pup!
  7. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks - if they last that long!

Benefits of Giving Treats

Chews Help Keep Teeth Clean

One of the main benefits of giving your dog chews is that they help keep teeth clean. This is especially important for small breeds, who are prone to dental problems. By chewing on a chew toy or bone, your dog will remove plaque and tartar from their teeth, which will help keep their gums healthy.

Provide Essential Vitamins and Minerals

Chews are also a great way to give your dog the vitamins and minerals they need for a healthy diet. Most chews are made with natural ingredients like meat, vegetables, and fruits, packed with nutrients essential for your dog's health.

Chews Can Help Prevent Boredom

Another benefit of giving your dog chews is that they can help prevent boredom. If your dog is left alone for long periods of time, they may start to get antsy and destructive. Giving them something to chew on will help keep them occupied and distracted from any negative behaviors.

Chews Can Help Relieve Stress

Finally, chews can also help relieve stress in dogs. If your dog is anxious or nervous, chewing can help them relax and feel calmer.

As you can see, there are many benefits to giving your dog chews. Not only do they help keep teeth clean, but they can also prevent boredom and relieve stress. So next time you have free time, bake some chews for your pup! They'll thank you for it later.

Sweet Potatoes For Your Pet

While most people think of sweet potatoes as a Thanksgiving side dish, these humble tubers can actually be a healthy and delicious treat for your four-legged friend. Loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, sweet potatoes are an excellent way to boost your dog's health. Here are just a few of the benefits of giving your dog sweet potatoes.

Vitamin A for a Healthy Coat and Skin

One of the most important vitamins for dogs is vitamin A. This essential nutrient helps to keep their coat and skin healthy, while also supporting their immune system. Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of vitamin A, which means they can help to keep your dog's coat looking shiny and healthy.

Potassium for Heart Health

Potassium is an important mineral for dogs (and humans!) because it helps to keep our heart health in check. Sweet potatoes are a great source of potassium, which means they can help to keep your dog's heart ticking along nicely.

Fiber for Digestive Health

Dogs need fiber just like we do! Fiber helps to keep their digestive system regular and can also help to regulate blood sugar levels. Sweet potatoes are a great source of dietary fiber, which makes them an excellent choice for dogs who need a little help in the digestive department.
